From Springgate:
One evening prior to a Cardinals game I ambled into a new speakeasy on 4th Street behind the Broadway Oyster Bar. I soon found out the proprietors of this new gin joint were Alton saloon owners that had decided to expand across the river. To support the Alton homeboys in their new endeavor, I have decided to hold a Bar-of-The-Month at this establishment.
The next BOM is scheduled for after work on Friday, June 27th at Bushwoods on 4th Street (758 South 4th St., St. Louis, Mo 63105 phone 314-436-7048). According to Ricky Macias, one of the owners, the bar is named after the country club in the classic film "Caddyshack".
The bar features a kitchen with a menu that includes Fried Green Beans (which are very good) among a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, pizzas, and salads as well as an outdoor beer garden.
With the Cardinals out of town that night, there is plenty of parking on the street and in the vacant lot across the street. Drop in and join your BOM amigos at Bushwoods on 4th Street for a drink and a bite to eat.
Steve Springgate
P.S. If everything works out, this BOM will mark the return of the BOM Bowl filled with party favors. The bowl re-surfaced at Beth & George’s party last weekend.

West End Grill and Pub, 354 North Boyle Avenue
Hosted by Ms. Tammy Turner
The crowd was small but packed with laughs. Quotes from the evening include:
- I'm not a picky eater. My favorite dish is raw sea urchin with a quail's egg floated on top, but I refuse to eat peas.
- That's a man who loves his El Camino. In response: Show me a man with an El Camino who doesn't love it.
- I can turn a hummer around in two minutes.
- I can make a hummer disappear in two minutes.
- I don't tweet in public.
- Is sucking or blowing better?
We also learned that the very first cocktail party was held in St. Louis. From wikipedia:
The first cocktail party ever thrown was allegedly by Mrs. Julius S. Walsh Jr. of St. Louis, Missouri in May 1917. Mrs. Walsh invited 50 guests to her mansion at noon on a Sunday. The party lasted one hour, until lunch was served at 1pm. The site of the first cocktail party still stands. In 1924 the Catholic Archdiocese of St. Louis bought the Walsh mansion at 4510 Lindell Blvd., and it has served as the local archbishop's residence ever since.
Any volunteers for hosting the next one?

Cool site or bet settler?
Welcome to the home of all things Bar Of the Month. Please note that when you're typing out the address of this blog, it is NOT bar-of-the-month, but rather bar-o-the-month. There was a glitch that I'd rather not discuss and so now the address is a little off. Just put it in your favorites right now and forget about it.
Anyway, I hope you like it. Understand I built what you see using what I had in my photo library and recent memory. If you've got pictures or stories or suggestions, please send an email to barofthemonth at hotmail dot com. (There were no glitches when I got the email addy.)
Anyone interested in hosting the next BOM - c'mon folks, it's been a few months! - should contact Gate by emailing him at the address for this site, or any other you might have for him.
Again, I hope you find it useful and entertaining.
